Investing in Green Bay West Students and the Community

The enrollment boundaries for Green Bay West High includes students with socioeconomic conditions often cited as creating barriers to college enrollment. Barriers for West students often include the consequences of transient family structures: high levels of free/reduced lunch, low standardized testing proficiency exam scores and below average graduation rates. DGTI aims to remove those barriers through thoughtful program considerations.

Do Great Things Initiative will work with Green Bay West High School faculty and staff to design programs to help the school achieve their student achievement goals.

  •  Encourage students from day one of high school to begin their preparation to become a high-achieving student so entry into college is possible.
  •  Instill the fact that every student can be college-ready, regardless of their family’s income level.
  •  Facilitative support to remove the procedural application barriers for admission and financial aid
  •  Explain the types of federal, state, and local aid that is available as well as grants, scholarships, and low-income loans.
  •  Provide students and families with real cost estimates to college costs.
  •  Continue to serve as mentors to admitted college students to ensure their graduation.

West High School

Green Bay West High School prides itself on a rich diversity of students and a variety of career pathways. As one of only thirteen high schools in Wisconsin with an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. West High School prides itself on this innovative IB approach to learning.

The IB Diploma Programme is an internationally minded curriculum that allows students to advance their learning through an inquiry-based approach. Students are taught to be risk-takers, communicators, balanced thinkers, principled, open-minded, reflective, and caring. Students who complete the IB Diploma Programme are well-prepared to excel in post-secondary education or another path of their choosing. The school is an authorized IB Middle Years Programme school to serve students aged 11-16.

West offers Advanced Placement (AP) and Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) credit options. Many of these programs such as the Certified Nursing Assistant program, Bay Link Manufacturing job-shop and Bridges Construction & Renovation program allow students to apply their knowledge in real-world situations and earn college credit.

More than half of West’s students participate in a college-level course during their senior year, and graduate with college credit.
