Current Scholarships

Opportunities Available for You.

One goal of the Do Great Things Initiative is to encourage alumni and local business leaders to establish scholarships for Green Bay West students to help cover the gap after all aid and merit awards are applied to tuition.

Jim Ryan, a 1985 graduate of Green Bay West High School, and his wife, Tracy, have set up two scholarships with their alma mater, Marquette University, and one scholarship with UW-Green Bay. These scholarships will be awarded annually by the admissions staff at Marquette and UW-GB to three students from Green Bay West High School.

Gary Wiessinger, a 1989 graduate of GB West High School, and his wife, Hillary, established The Wiessinger Family NWTC Scholarships, awarding two students annually to attend Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.

Our goal is to offer a variety of scholarships to hardworking students at GB West who are ready to make their dream of attending post-secondary education possible.

Steps to Earn the Do Great Things Marquette Scholarships

Step 1: Apply to Marquette University

You can apply using the Marquette application or the Common Application. Marquette states that there is no preference of one application over the other, so feel free to apply using the application that’s best for you. Keep in mind that the admissions team at Marquette often states that the essay portion of an application along with listing your extracurricular activities during high school are just as important as your high school transcripts. You may also submit a personal statement and letters of recommendation.

Apply beginning August 1st. Deadline is December 1st.

Applications completed by December 1 will receive a decision before the end of the year. Applications received after the December 1 deadline are considered late and will be reviewed on a space-available basis beginning in January. When applying to Marquette University, every student is eligible for Père Marquette Award gift assistance, Marquette’s largest offering of scholarship to students. All full-time applicants to Marquette are considered for the Père Marquette Award program and no additional application is required. In your acceptance letter from Marquette, the amount of the scholarship will be listed in your letter.

Do Great Things Scholarship Tip: Begin working on your essay in September by brainstorming ideas for whichever question you choose to answer. GET HELP from your advisors. Remember that most students write numerous drafts before they are ready to submit their essay.

Do Great Things Scholarship Tip: Take advantage of touring Marquette or speaking to a Marquette Admissions Representative when they visit Green Bay West during your Junior year, or even Sophomore year.

Do Great Things Scholarship Tip: List every extracurricular activity – all sports, clubs, jobs, community service on your application. Submit a personal statement and send at least one letter of recommendation. Make sure you allow plenty of time for whoever you ask for a recommendation – at least two weeks. Make sure you thank them afterward.

Step 2: Fill out the FAFSA Online

It is very important to fill out the FAFSA online no later than February 1st. The site opens mid-October. FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The forms are based on tax documents from the prior year so there is no need to wait to fill out the forms. Green Bay West hosts a FAFSA information night and Marquette Financial Aid has created videos to explain the application process. You can also view key steps, cost of attendance, types of aid and scholarships and additional resources at Marquette’s Financial Aid website. Marquette also offers virtual appointments to help understand the process of applying and receiving aid, the various additional grants and scholarships available beyond federal and state aid that can help with the cost of attending college.

To be eligible for one of the two Do Great Things Scholarships, you need to apply to Marquette University and fill out your FAFSA application online. There is no further application that you need to complete.

The admissions team at Marquette University will consider all student applications from Green Bay West High School for the Do Great Things Scholarship awards.

Scholarship awards will be announced mid-spring. The deadline for accepting admission to Marquette University is May 1st.
