The Do Great Things Initiative (DGTI) is proud to announce a significant expansion of its mission to remove financial barriers to higher education. Thanks to a $500,000 gift from Gary and Hillary Wiessinger, the Initiative will fund scholarships and expand trade education opportunities for students at Green Bay West High School.
The funding will establish the Wiessinger Family Scholarships, which will support students pursuing higher education at two-year technical colleges. In addition, the gift will provide program funding for trade and technical education offered at West High, including Bay Link Manufacturing and Bridges Construction & Renovation.
Gary Wiessinger, a 1989 graduate of West High, is the Senior Vice President of Application Development at Oracle NetSuite, a leading business software company. He earned a degree in Economics from Yale University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Gary’s wife Hillary received her Accounting degree from the University of San Diego and a Master’s in Education from National Louis University. Hillary currently teaches math at Central Middle School in San Carlos, California.
With this generous gift, the DGTI has now invested a total of $6.5 million in the Green Bay community, reaffirming its deep and growing commitment to local students and families.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the education and support I received at Green Bay West, which opened the door for me to continue my education at Yale and Kellogg and pursue my career dreams,” said Gary. “This gift is our way of giving back to the West community and helping today’s students pursue their own dreams through higher education – especially through two-year technical colleges and trade programs that offer strong pathways to great careers.”
Hillary added, “We believe in the power of education to change lives. Many students can achieve their goals through technical or trade pathways, and we want to make those paths more accessible.”
The Do Great Things Initiative is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping students at Green Bay West High School plan for their future, become college-ready, and overcome financial barriers to higher education.
