On Thursday, October 13th over 40 students and faculty from Green Bay West travelled to Milwaukee to tour Marquette University as part of the Do Great Things Initiative. The group was greeted by the energetic and informative Latrice Harris-Collins, Marquette’s Director of Community Relations & Outreach for Undergraduate Admissions. Latrice was our leader for the day and spoke to the group about the process of applying to Marquette University as well as thinking about career and life goals. Latrice gave the students practical tips on submitting a solid college essay.
Special Welcome to the Students
Brian Troyer, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions and Dr. Kimo Ah Yun, Provost, welcomed the students and faculty and spoke about Marquette’s culture and urged the students to soak up everything they experienced during the tour. The students were led in small groups to tour the campus, dining halls, educational buildings, and library.
Working Lunch for the Group
After the tours, we gathered for lunch in the Alumni Memorial Union. Latrice led a question-and-answer session for the students, parents, and faculty. 2022 Do Great Things Initiative Scholarship recipients Isabella and Raelea joined us for lunch. Isabella spoke about the highlights of her transition to Marquette and answered questions from the students.
A spring tour of Marquette University will be scheduled soon, and Green Bay West High School freshman and sophomores will be encouraged to attend. The mission of the Do Great Things Initiative is to encourage and assist GB West students to become college-ready and help fund the cost of college.
