The mission of the Do Great Things Initiative partnership with Green Bay West High School is to reduce experiential and economic barriers to Green Bay West High School students access to college education. The three ways we can make an impact are to help make the students college-ready, apply for as much financial aid as possible, and fund the tuition gap (what they owe after all aid, grants, and discounts.) We have a current-use fund available to the faculty and staff, and they use the money to create enrichment programs that meet our strategic pillars.
When we began this program three years ago, only 6% of senior students had been on a college tour. Last year 61% of seniors toured a college. Only 14% of seniors completed the FAFSA application, and now over 50%. The number of seniors who applied to college doubled. We’ve more than tripled the amount of scholarship dollars available to students. This is a grass-roots program that is working and making a difference.
Thank you to the faculty and staff at Green Bay West High School for organizing these impactful experiences for the students.
